Hi Everyone,

Corey and I had a lovely night. When I arrived she was truly exhausted and already in bed. She had a busy gym day as well as a spasticity evaluation. The Dr.’s evaluated her range of motion in her legs. The assessment is needed to determine if she’d benefit from additional botox shots in her legs. As a result of the Traumatic Brain Injury, Corey’s brain can send the wrong signals to the nerve endings. Some patients muscles will “tone” (lock up). If the muscles are not flexible it will hinder any opportunity for her to stand let alone try to learn to walk again.

Corey reacted well to her last set of shots and the team feels she would benefit from an additional dose. It will help her with her range of motion so the PT team can continue to work on standing and developing her leg muscles so they don’t atrophy. The shots are scheduled for tomorrow.

We didn’t work too hard this evening because Corey was so tired. We played with the laser pen for a short time, worked on range of motion for her arms and legs and then settled in for a Friends marathon. Corey loves this series and it was fun to watch her smile at a few parts. It gives me such comfort to know that she truly is present and understands. I’m so encouraged that she still has her sense of humor!

Corey it was so nice to sit with you tonight. It was a busy day for me but spending the evening relaxed and content to just “hang out” continues to remind me how lucky we are. I was very thankful and truly enjoyed your company. How often does our day consume our mind and heart to distract us from just being together?

I love the theme song from Friends, “I’ll be there for you”. I’m guessing you realized that we’re not going anywhere anytime soon, huh?! It also provoked thoughts of gratitude for all the people in our life; our friends, family and even Roxie and Amelia. I was also grateful for laughter; watching you smile and giggle was better than any joke written in the show. I thought about what it’s like caring for your needs everyday and how lucky we are to receive the care we receive from others. It’s beyond anything I could imagine.

A dear friend sent you a gift that arrived today. A stuffed toy, ‘The Little Engine that Could’. This little engine is YOU Corey. It represented what I’m most grateful for ~ that you have the ability to keep making progress.

An excerpt of today’s motivational reading sums it up perfectly;
Life is good, because within its realm, anything is possible. Life is good, because no matter how far you fall, there is always a way to climb back up again. You can complain, fret and worry about all the problems in your life, but you’ll be wasting your time. Or, you can choose to focus on why and how life is so good, and on what you can do to take that goodness and make it even better.
That’s what we’re going to do honey! I love you. Happy dreams, xoxo
